D-Day
had arrived. He’d checked the sign-up sheet twenty times in the last two
hours. Dale had not crossed his name off.
“Trunk, open the windows, eh? It’s
hot in here.”
“Hot? Are you heating up? Have your
massage today?”
Robbie felt his cheeks grow hot. “Yeah.
So?”
“So it ain’t hot in here, it’s you,
buddy. And Dale Sawyer. Damn, she’s the hottest babe in this town.”
Robbie opened two windows. “Don’t let
your wife hear you say that,” he said.
“Carla? She’s so hot she’s the sun.
No one can compete with her. She knows I like Dale.”
“Everybody likes Dale.”
“Yeah, Andrews. And she ain’t dating
any guy on the team.”
“Who is she dating?”
Trunk shrugged. “I don’t know. Why
don’t you ask her?”
Robbie shook his head. “Un huh. Not going
there.”
“She’s private. So why don’t you just
get your massage and chalk her up as the one that got away.” Trunk opened his
locker.
No way could he do that. He had his
pride didn’t he? He combed his hair for the tenth time and brushed his teeth,
then stared in the mirror. Damn, he was still the best-looking guy on the team.
After glancing up at the clock, he
noticed it was his time for the massage. He sauntered over to the training
room, his gait oozing confidence. Buddy Carruthers shoved by him.
“Hey, where you going?”
“Massage,” Buddy said, stopped inside
the doorway.
“No way. I’m next. I’m on the list.”
Dale joined them, resting her hand on
her perfect hip. “Sorry Anthony. You’ve been scratched. Carruthers had a Charlie
horse. He’s taking your spot.”
Robbie glared at Buddy who wore a
shit-eating grin. “Yeah. Sorry.”
Robbie flung his towel around his
neck and strode over to the sign-up sheet. He searched the sheet and nothing
was open for two weeks. Shit! Beat out for time with the woman who absolutely
needed to be his. Anger gathered in his chest. He glanced over at the massage
room. Buddy was stretched out with a towel over his rump. Dale looked up, her
gaze connecting with Robbie’s. A small smile curled her lips before she focused
on the wide receiver on the table.
Well, at least he got that a smile. A small one, but one just for him. It would have to do. If he had to get up at six and be at the stadium at six thirty when it opened to get a spot on the sign-up sheet he would. He’d pursue Dale. He’d never give up.
That's it. Thanks for coming.
Great scene. Looking forward to more.
ReplyDeleteOh, I almost feel bad for him. I can’t wait to see what happens when he finally does get his chance. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHe's so full of himself and yet boyish with a touch of anxiety that I'm happy she gave him a special little smile.
ReplyDeleteI love this: She’s so hot she’s the sun.- very nicely done! And man, he has an ego on him, doesn't he? LOL!
ReplyDeleteWell, darn. And I was looking forward to see how he was going to react with this. Someone threw a wrench into the plans.
ReplyDeleteGreat scene!
