TUESDAY TALES - STAIRS

Welcome! This week we continue with a short bit from Coach Bass's evolving story.

********
Daisy trotted up the stairs, into the posh bathroom, and curled up while Jo soaked and scrubbed. She couldn’t figure out Coach Bass.
There was chemistry, then he scared her, then he came to her rescue. Which man was the real Pete Sebastian? I’ve never met a man I couldn’t figure out. Gotta get his m.o. I’ll have him nailed in no time. Maybe he’s just a good guy with a bad temper? She shook her head.
Life had taught her there were no good guys. That’s why she was single. Prince Charming is a fairytale. He doesn’t exist. And that means Pete Sebastian, too. Keep on depending on yourself. You’ve never let you down yet. It’s safer.
She slipped naked between the sheets. Breeze from the bedroom window cooled the room. Daisy hopped up and curled up at the bottom of the bed, circling several times before finding just the right position to get comfortable. Jo loved that. It always made her chuckle.
She stared at the moon. Her body was tired, but her mind was alert. Pete Sebastian intrigued her and the challenge of the job scared her a little. I can do it. If I work hard enough, I can. I’ve been successful before and I will here. An even bigger success. I’ll be nationally known. Put the Kings on the map as the most advanced team in the league.

ADORA SMUTZ INTERVIEWS GRIFF MONTGOMERY

Hello! I'm Adora Smutz and I'm so lucky to be interviewing that fabulous football hunk, quarterback, Griff Montgomery, today.  *Calls to Griff*, "Come, sit here, next to me. I don't bite --well, not until I know you better. Have a beer."
Griff: *walks slowly, keeping an eagle eye on Adora until he spots the beer. Settles in and pops the bottle top*. "So what do you want to know?"
Adora: *narrows her eyes*, "What did Jean tell you about this interview?"
Griff: "She told me I had to do it. It's in my contract. Said she's not going to let the publisher release Buddy's book unless I do this."
Adora: "What else?"
Griff: "She said not to get too close to you. But, hell, I'm over six feet and you're what? Five two?"
Adora: *murmurs* "Five feet two inches made for love."
Griff: "What?"
Adora: "Jean told me you'd have your shirt off for the interview." *grabs buttons*, "Let's get it off, shall we?"
Griff: *fists his shirt* "No way! She told me that was just for a cover shot. I do interviews dressed."
Adora: "What about locker room interviews?"
Griff: *blushes* "That's different."
Adora: *grabbing his shirt again* "Let's pretend this is the locker room."
Griff: *slides down the couch, away from Adora* "I thought we were supposed to talk about the book?"
Adora: "We will. Aren't you shirtless in the book?"                                                               Griff: "Yeah. Sometimes. We're supposed to talk about the story. What's going on here? Where's Jean?"                                                            Adora: "She went out for tea. She left you in my hands. You're perfectly safe..."
Griff: "I doubt that. Get away from me."
Adora: "Okay, okay. You win. Tell me about the book."
Griff: "It's a really poignant story. Jean gave me that word. About two lonely people and a pug."
Thinking he's off guard, Adora lunges for Griff. He evades her and pops off the sofa. She's right behind him. He heads for a round table.
Griff: "You'll never catch me here."
Adora: "Oh yeah? You're not the first guy who thought that table would save him...and was wrong!"
Griff:  "Jean is gonna have a meltdown if we don't have this interview."
Adora: "New rule. I interview all football players shirtless."
Griff: "You gonna take off your shirt?"
Adora: *throws him a lusty glance* "If you insist." She begins to unbutton her blouse.
Griff: *holds up hands* "No! No! Don't do that! Jean! Jean? Where the hell are you.
A sudden snarling sound comes from the door. A pug dashes in, looks around, bares his teeth and runs straight for Adora. She screams. Griff: "Spike! Spike, no!" Griff scoops up the snarling dog while Adora cowers behind the sofa.
Adora: "This is Adora Smuts concluding my interview of hunky Griff Montgomery, Quarterback."
Griff: "Aw, just read the book, will ya? Make Jean's day."
Tall, gorgeous, dark-haired man walks off with panting pug securely tucked under his arm.
Summary
He wanted a wife. She didn’t want to get married – ever.  Not exactly a match made in heaven. Ten years ago, Griff Montgomery, star quarterback of the Kings and womanizer, became a stand-in father for his widowed sister’s kids. After they moved away, Griff wanted his own family. But where does a “player” go to find his ideal mate?
Having sworn off marriage forever, Lauren Farraday barely kept her life together after her divorce. With her career shaky and depression closing in, the last thing she needed was a courtroom battle with a sexy athlete.
Wary of Griff’s reputation with women, and hiding a secret, Lauren holds on to her heart.  Can the quarterback handle the truth or will he walk away, like he has in the past?

FAMOUS QUARTERBACK PROFILES - AARON RODGERS

This new series will be profiling some of the greatest quarterbacks that ever lived. I'm selecting the ones I like best first. I hope you can live with that. We'll start with my absolute favorite, Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.

5 FAST FACTS

1. He's 31 years old.
2. Not married.
3. Originally from California
4. He's six foot two
5. Became starting QB for the Packers in 2008

Aaron has an outstanding record which puts him at the top of many all time best QB's lists.
He stepped in after Brett Favre left under negative circumstances. But Favre was a fave of the people of Green Bay, so Aaron had big shoes to fill. And he's done an excellent job of it, too.
Known for a high percentage of completions, Rodgers is an unprepossessing guy.  The opposite of pompous, he has proven he can laugh at himself. He's also involved in charity work.
Green Bay, Wisconsin is the smallest football city in the league, but by no means the least vocal. The team is unusual in that it belongs to the people of Green Bay, who own shares of the team. I love that aspect  --that there is no fat cat sitting at the helm.
Also, Green Bay has a philosophy to bring players along organically, meaning they train and promote from within, rather than trade for what they need. I'm sure they do some trades, but not many. This gives the team a cohesive quality --the guys have been working, training and playing together for a long time. I think that helps them perform better. Their track record seems to support that, too.
We should also credit the Packers offensive line. They do an outstanding job, giving Rodgers the time he needs to connect with the receiver. The Green Bay Packers are one of my favorite teams and Aaron Rodgers is my number one favorite quarterback.

Here's a snippet from my new football romance series, FIRST & TEN:
This is a conversation between Griff and Carla, bartender at The Savage Beast, his occasional bed buddy.

She placed the glass in front of him.“When are you gonna fix me up with one of your hot teammates?”
“What’s wrong with me?” He took a sip and gave her a thumbs up.
“We’ve been bed buddies long enough to know it’s not happening beyond that.”
He seated his tall, rangy body on a stool. “Don’t know ’till you try.”
She wiped her hands on a towel and fixed him with a stare. “You gonna stop running around, whoring across the country and back, just for little ole me?”
“Whoring? Wait a minute…”
“That’s what I thought.” She turned her attention to a dozen wet wine glasses.
