TUESDAY TALES - WORD PROMPT "EASY"

Welcome to Tuesday Tales! This week, we're writing to the word prompt "easy." I have another excerpt from my Y.A. novel, "Skit the Scout and Me."

When you're done ready, read the other authors excerpts. Fine them HERE.

I went up to my room and  unpacked. Then I sat on the window seat and stared outside. It was quiet. Something I’m not used to. I liked it. The occasional bird flew by. I never saw anything but pigeons where I lived.

I saw a group of black birds gather high up in a tree on the edge of the meadow. Their dark color stood out for a moment, then they seemed to disappear into the shadows of the abundant leaves. Pretty clever, I thought. Their black feathers made it easy for them to slip into shadows and avoid predators.

“Dinner!” came a loud voice from downstairs. I brushed my fingers through my hair to settle it down and made tracks to the stairs. The last set up to my crow’s nest were steep. But the others were wide and I made it down in no time.

“From now on, you’d best be giving me a hand with meals. You can set the table. Chop vegetables, fill water glasses. Whatever needs doing, okay?” My grandmother said.

I nodded.

“Here,” said Grandpa, indicating my place at the table.

He said a hurried grace, then passed a bowl filled with homemade potato salad. Next came a plate with sliced bread. It looked great.

“I make my own bread. With the price of bread these days, it’s cheaper,” Grandma said.

“And better,” Grandpa put in with a wink.

We had leftover chicken from the noon meal, and sliced tomatoes from the garden. I never knew tomatoes could taste that good!

Thanks for stopping by!
