“I don’t have anything to wear. I
can’t exactly show up for his class wearing painter’s overalls, can I?”
“You don’t have any date clothes?” Kitty asked, a look of
astonishment on her face.
“Nope. No school clothes, either.”
Corey reached into his back pocket and pulled out his
wallet. He plucked out a credit card and put it on the table. “Here. Kitty,
take her shopping. Please don’t spend more than three hundred bucks, okay?”
Charlotte’s eyes wetted, Emotion choked her. Unable to
speak she simply smiled and nodded.
“He got you to read. You’ve got a shot with him. He’s a
good guy,” Corey said, patting his sister’s shoulder.
Charlotte pulled a snowy white hanky from her pocket and dried her
eyes. Then she put her hand on Corey’s forearm. “He didn’t get me to read. You
did.”
Her brother’s eyebrows shot up. “I did? How did I do
that?”
“When you moved out, you left behind a couple of books. Without
Pop to talk to, I had to do something to fill the time. And I was curious, so I
read them.”
Corey chuckled, his cheeks reddened. “You finally found
those?”
“You left them on purpose?” Her eyebrows shot up.
“Yeah. I picked a couple I thought you’d like and left them in the kitchen. I hoped you’d be curious enough to read them.”
“Why Corey Anderson! What a sneaky thing to do!” Unable to maintain an angry demeanor, she smiled.
That's all this week. Thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to leave a comment!
